My name is Douglas Tatum I am currently still serving in the United States Army. I attended the Houston Harris Security Academy during the week of August 13, 2015. I am interested in getting certifications to get a PPO as well as Private Investigators certification. In class I had an Instructor that stood out among the rest, his name was Mr.Traylor . The level he was instructing the class on the curriculum was at the level we teach in our Military format. He was very thorough with his examples of what he was teaching, hands on ability during demonstrations were exemplary. His knowledge of weapon systems handling and operations were spot on .He showed us demonstrations with individuals in the class so they understood what verbiage he was teaching as well as how it would look in real life situations.  I felt he was very confident in what he was teaching. I would like to come back and take more classes and receive training by Mr. Traylor. I want to add I have been thru over a hundred different training sessions with other instructors in my military career.  I really wanted to share this, because these kinds of individuals are very hard to come by that have been trained and certified at the highest level and he has accomplished a lot viewing his credentials and hands on skill set . I will be scheduling my next class with him to go forward to get my PPO certification.. Thanks again.

I am a well educated female in her 20's with a slim-medium build. 

It is with great pleasure that I get to sit here today with complete confidence in my personal safety. After having a negative encounter I realized that I needed to prepare myself for any situation that could potentially harm me or my loved ones. I searched on Google for a while. Being well versed in research I picked several candidates to choose from (after all this could mean life or death). 

The biggest problem I consistently came across was the lack of real world situations. By that, I mean a lot of places market karate and ninja style fighting. While that could be helpful I wanted a place where I could ask "If this would happen, what should I do?". 

This is when I found Dark Gift Combat. They believed in learning defense of real world situations. I spoke with the owner Mr. Traylor and learned that he actually trains Harris County Police Recruits, Security Officers and much more! I decided to give them a try. 

This is when I got the pleasure of meeting Mrs.Traylor. She was extremely knowledgeable, very patient, and such a joy to be around! Her positive attitude combined with her down to earth mindset made her the perfect trainer. 

To sum everything up, I would HIGHLY recommend Dark Gift Combat to any man, woman, or child. They are responsible, knowledgeable, patient, positive and everything you need in Self Defense Training. I was blessed to come across these wonderful people!

I’ve been training with DGC for the past two months. The key areas I look for in training are as follows:

1) Training Staff - their integrity, experience, work ethic, do they have passion for their trade and flexibility - . Mr. and Mrs. Traylor and Dennis far exceeded my expectations in all training areas​ Strength of the program -

2) Mr. Traylor has takes the best from numerous martial arts disciplines, boxing, wrestling and weapons handling and developed urban combat techniques that are “real world” and brutally effective Training facility -

3) The DGC training facility is perfectly suited for learning and perfecting DGC urban combat techniques.

When younger I boxed, studied Karate and  Jujutsu. I was young , fast and aggressive. Now that I’m older I felt it necessary to improve my combat skills to be prepared for potential problem situations in this crazy world we live in.
REAL WORLD EXPERIENCE: While recently at a resort I was attacked from behind. As we learn in DGC I was aware of my surroundings and caught the attack in time to cover, duck and spin around. Before my attacker could deliver another blow I delivered an elbow to the shoulder, right and left hand eye strikes, throat chop and trip which took less than two seconds. The attacker was down for the count. I’m 5’6” , 155 pounds my attacker was over 6’ and 200. In my past I would have tried to fight my attacker and probably have taken some punishment. DGC has given me the skills to end a confrontation fast with minimum injury.

I have learned from experience that the self-defense industry is a very competitive market and sometimes molded as a, "One Size Fits All"  system where students are not allowed to question what is being taught to them or rather what is being taught at them. That is why I have found a home with Dark Gift Combat under Mr Taylor's tutelage. His humbled patience and passion for teaching allows the student(s) to learn. Mr Traylor will also go over the actions of the self-defense actions so the student can learn how, why, and what actions are effective.

                                                            DGC helped prepare me for Recruit School and now out here on the streets. The techniques I learned from Mr. Traylor was                                                             the core defense system at the training academy and it put me ahead of much of the class. Stopping cars and dealing with                                                             people can be stressful and dangerous, I feel much more confident having learned this D.G.C.F.  system. I wish I was                                                                   stationed back in Houston to continue my  training with DGC, I will miss it. I was traveling in South America in August 2009 and was the target of a mugging. As a result of my training with Mr. and Mrs. Traylor at Dark Gift Combat Fighting System, I was able to protect myself. On a Sunday afternoon, a friend and I were walking down a street in a "good" part of town in Spain. A short distance ahead of me, I noticed two women, one man, and one child standing off to the side of the sidewalk. I assessed these people as being a "family" and not a risk to me. Then, I noticed that the child ran away from the adults and the man started to run after the child. The next thing I knew, the man literally sprung up in my face. With absolutely no hesitation, I immediately reacted by using my water bottle as a weapon of opportunity to hit the man at the same time I screamed NO very loudly. After I hit him, I got in position to jab at his eyes. At this point, he realized I was not an easy target for him and he quickly ran away from me. Mr. Traylor's situational reality based training worked in the real world for me. I went to Dark Gift Combat Fighting System for a month this summer. Even though I had not practiced in over two months, the training was ingrained in me how to assess a situation and react immediately. I absolutely did not hesitate or stop to think what I should do. I went into action as Dark Gift Combat trained me. Mr. Traylor also emphasized in the class that if you can't carry a weapon, at least carry a water bottle because that can be helpful in defending myself. I have ten months of traveling the world by myself still ahead of me. After this experience, I now know that my Dark Gift Combat training is an automatic reflex..

I have trained approximately 4 weeks at DGC. Being a Federal Corrections Officer for Federal Prison System I started to notice a more violent younger type offender began to saturate the system . I decided to be proactive rather than a victim of assault which is becoming more prevalent in our prisons . Training with Mr. Traylor and his Knowledgeable Instructors has given me an edge I need to survive whether in prison or on the streets . From day one the course instruction being taught is understable and easy to learn and I had no prior martial arts training .I recommend this system for anyone in any type of Law Enforcement. First off I want to thank you for what you and your wife do,,it is an amzing thing to be able to equip people to protect their family and friends, and save their lives....Yall are modern day heros and I admire yall and what you do.....I have a huge heart and passion to do what you are doing,,If I could pick any career in life,,one of them would definitely be to protect women and children and help them protect themselves,,and I was wondering if there was anyway you could help me do that??!?!?!? Like getting certified to teach your reality based self defense?!?!?  I have a huge, huge heart to want to protect women and children, and equip them to do so themselves,,I just have no idea what to do or where to go to do it,,,and that is why I emailed you and because I knew you were one of the best if not the best.......Can you please help me??
